Community Events

Luminous Warrior opens its doors to the larger community in AYNI (sacred reciprocity) on a monthly basis to feature practices and ceremonies of the indigenous cultures, native tribes and ancient civilizations. What practices and ceremonies we feature may change, but what is sure to persist is the deeply healing effect, profound transformational shift, and replenished state of being after these events. Our featured events currently focus on the Heart-Mind-Action connection and include Despacho Ceremonies (Shamanic Practice),  Drum Circles (Native American Practice), Kirtan Meditations (Yogic Practice), and Collective Healings (Energy Medicine).

DESPACHO CEREMONIES

Activating Right Relationship with all of Life

Our Despacho Ceremonies are based in the Shamanic Traditions and can be a profound healing and alignment for individuals, couples and families. Engaging in regular ceremonies can bring us into proper alignment with the natural world, with our relationships, our ancestry, our families, and even collective patterns. They are wonderful gatherings that bring deep healing to ourselves, our families, our community, all life on earth, and the world. Think of creating a wish bundle, using leafs, flowers, seeds, rice, sugar, beans and more. It’s a feast for the gods, for your family, and for yourself! Our Despacho Ceremonies are facilitated Sara Salam. Sara is a Healer, Teacher and a Guide who works with the Unseen Realms of the natural world. She sources Despacho Ceremonies from the Quero Nation of the Peruvian Shamanic Traditions. It is a profound experience to create in community and bring deep healing to the entire Universe, including ourselves. Sara believes that it is in activating the Heart Center that more of us will be able to tap into awakened, spiritual and enlightened states. No prior experience necessary.

INTERTRIBAL DRUM CIRCLES

Activating Right Relationship with Mother Earth

Drumming is the ancient art of connecting with our roots, with our Earth, and with each other. Many ancient and tribal cultures used drumming as a way of calling on Mother Earth. Drumming can be healing, meditative, relaxing or energizing. It can take you on a journey deep within yourself or to other levels of consciousness. Whether you play a drum, shake a rattle, dance, sing and chant, or simply sit back and take it all in, we all create the circle together. The DC Intertribal Drum Circle includes people from all walks of life with a sincere desire to reconnect with ourselves, our communities, and our Earth. Bring a drum, bring a rattle or just bring yourself, and join us for an afternoon of healing, rhythm and spirit. No previous drumming or drum circle experience required, only an open heart and an open mind. Bring your Hand Drums, Flutes, Didgeridoos, and Rattles, and let’s have some fun! Topics we have covered include drum protocol and common drum beats; dawning song and corresponding Round Dance; “Healing Sounds” and corresponding chakras; your personal drum, drum stories and drum initiations; making drumsticks for your hand drum; and the song of the Ripeners (the Insect People) –an Emergence Song from the Dine’ Creation Story. Evans Craig, in collaboration with Luminous Warrior, is bringing you the DC Intertribal Drum Circle. Evans is a Social Network Connoisseur, a Native American Entrepreneur and a Traditional Spiritual Healer from the Navaho Nation. He has been studying with many Native American Tribes across the Nation over many years. We are fortunate to have Evans bring his gift of Drum and Flute songs to the Luminous Warrior Space.

KIRTAN MEDITATIONS

Activating Right Relationship with the Self

Many people aren’t aware of the extremely colorful, deep, and rich landscape that lies behind the workout most Westerns see as the practice of Yoga. Yoga “at the gym” is merely the tip of the iceberg. Kirtan is a form of yoga that focuses on mantra meditation as song. The Sanskrit word “man” means “mind” while “tra” means “to free”. Mantra meditation frees your mind of fear and anxiety, sound opens your third eye, and movement connects the heart to reveal your spiritual nature of eternity and bliss. The process of kirtan involves singing ancient mantras to the accompaniment of musical instruments. Mantras are sung in a repetitive call-and-response style; thus, Kirtan includes the audience in the performance. Many believe that the path to permanent peace and joy is a path that reserved for only Sages. This is actually not true. Enlightened states are entirely possible and achievable by all human beings now. Therefore, Luminous Warrior is offering Kirtan to further your understanding of this path. Tom Leader, in conjunction with Luminous Warrior, is making an offering to engage you in this peaceful, yet invigorating, meditative practice. Over the last decade, Tom has lived in ashrams dedicated to the practice of yoga such as the Himalayan Institute in Pennsylvania and Yogaville in Virginia. Tom traveled for over a year throughout New England with a yogi named Shubalananda. Shubal is a popular kirtan artist who has lived exclusively as a “kirtan wallah”, performing three to five days a week, for the past fifteen years at Yoga centers everywhere. we are pleased that Tom is bringing Kirtan to Luminous Warrior in a simple, non-intimidating format. Please join us for this engaging event, and partake in this more than 4000+ year-old yogic custom.

COLLECTIVE HEALINGS FOR LIGHTWORKERS

Healing Collective Patterns & Replenishing Ourselves for our Work

Collective Healings are based in Energy Medicine and specifically targeted at professional Lightworkers. Most Lightworkers work with collective system, patterns and issues, and often times, even their client’s issues run through them. This healing ceremony is a sacred sanctuary for Lightworkers who want to come together to heal the collective and replenish themselves in the process so that they can better assist humanity with its evolution, be of better service to their clients, and become an active part in creating positive change. This is a safe and inclusive environment for those who would like to come together with other Lightworkers and bring their own practice to an elevated place. This ceremonial healing is for Lightworkers who seek the support of like-hearted professionals.

HOW TO PREPARE:

Our events last about 1.5 – 2 hours. Please arrive on time and plan to stay for the duration of the ceremony. Be prepared to remove your street shoes at the downstairs entrance and to walk up 2 sets of stairs. Wear clothing that (a) is comfortable, (b) you can sit on the floor with, and (c) you can move in. We have a matted floor and can provide yoga blankets and blocks for further comfort. At times, we may decide to go outside for ceremony, so bring weather appropriate clothing.

You may also choose to bring your Medicine Bundle or other portable sacred objects if you have them (e.g., stones, crystals, malas, drums, sacred pipes, a necklace that has meaning to you). After ceremony, check out our store and upcoming events so you can bring more inspiration and healing into your daily life. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience. All you need is a willingness to participate and to have an open heart and mind.
