Warrior Self Defense

Warrior Self Defense is a unique combination of self defense techniques from Israeli hand-to-hand combat, mixed martial arts and weapons defenses; avoidance and risk reduction tactics; awareness and energy medicine tools, heart medicine and brainwave development; tapping adapted from the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT); visualizations adapted from neuro-linguistic programming (NLP); and more.

Luminous Warrior’s self defense program is divided into 5 levels:

Level 1 consists of basic non-combative skills such as risk reduction techniques, body language and positioning tactics, and verbal responses to threats. It also includes basic physical combatives such as punches, elbows, knees, and kicks that are critical to self defense. You will also learn defenses against common attacks such as grabs, chokes and headlocks, and gain understanding in the basic self defense continuum that ranges from awareness to self-care.

Levels 2 and 3 focus on increasingly complex self defense scenarios such as attacks on the ground, a variety of bearhugs and headlocks, advanced chokes, and secondary crime scene scenarios (e.g., sexual assault and abduction threats). You will learn about de-escalation and distraction tactics, clinch and close-range fighting and survival skills, and be introduced to basic defenses against commonly used weapons. We augment this phase of training with tools to manage fear and adrenaline, balance emotions, and engage in effective self-care.

Levels 4 and 5 go in depth into defenses against a variety of advanced attacks including submission holds, throws, and a diverse range of weapons. You will apply your skill-sets and knowledge to self defense scenarios of increased levels of complexity, including multiple attackers and third-party protection, and learn how to use what you have learned to address real-world scenarios. We will place increased focus on mind-body balance, awareness and avoidance capabilities, de-escalation tactics, preparatory risk reduction practices, and adrenaline and trauma management.

Level Progression

We conduct Level Workshops to track your progress through the levels. Workshops are intended to ensure that you understand all techniques, scenarios, and attacker profiles, and have a solid understanding of the level you are in. There are additional requirements for progressing to the next level. Ask us, and we’ll tell you more.

Testimonials

“We are so very happy that in such a short time, LW has helped us to be fitter in our 40’s than we were in our 20’s!”

“I am so glad I had the courage to go to an intro class to see what it was about. I love that I get an incredible workout each time and that the focus is not just for a challenge physically, but also emotionally and mentally. Even more than that, I love that I can give all I’ve got and not feel worried about what others think. The classes are small and the instructors and members are extremely kind and helpful.”

“The self defense training at Luminous Warrior is outstanding. Unlike in some schools, you won’t learn sport fighting or flashy moves here. Instead, the focus is purely on practical self defense techniques designed to help you survive violent encounters on the street. Not only are the instructors experts in the techniques, they are good at teaching them. Moreover, the instructors are committed to helping students improve in every class. The school is a great place to learn self defense and get into better shape while doing it.”

“Awesome. The instructors are highly professional and helpful, they keep challenging you and cheering you up. What I like most is that the classes are often supervised by two coaches simultaneously: one shows the excercise, the other keeps an eye on the group and corrects the students individually. They are always focused on safety, so I haven’t seen anyone get injured in the gym. The classes are always fun and very addictive.”
